How we do it

A proper mow, done properly. Every time.

Lawn mowing is the bread and butter of what we do at EcoMow Canberra. Every mow includes the full package — mowing all lawn areas, crisp edging along every path and garden bed, whipper snippering around obstacles, and a clean blower finish on all hard surfaces. When we leave, your yard looks like someone who cares has been through it.

All our gear is battery-powered Makita equipment, charged at home by solar panels. That means no petrol fumes drifting through your windows, no two-stroke whine at 7am, and significantly less noise than a traditional mowing crew. Your neighbours genuinely won't mind us being there — and that's not something any petrol-powered operator can say.

We adjust mowing height for your grass type and the season. Canberra grows a range of lawn varieties — tall fescue and Kentucky bluegrass (the staples of the classic Canberra Blend), couch and kikuyu in sunnier yards, buffalo in shadier spots. Each one has a sweet spot for cutting height, and getting it right is the difference between a lawn that bounces back strong and one that browns off after every mow. In summer, we mow a touch higher to protect roots from heat stress. Heading into winter, we bring it down to reduce frost damage.

Clippings are either mulch-mowed back into the lawn (which feeds the soil and reduces the need for fertiliser) or collected and removed — your call. We also mow verges and nature strips on request, because a tidy frontage starts at the kerb.

FAQs

Common questions about lawn mowing in Canberra.

How often should I mow my lawn in Canberra?

Most Canberra lawns need weekly or fortnightly mowing through the warmer months (October to March) when growth is strongest. Through autumn and winter, monthly mowing is usually enough. We adjust your schedule to how your lawn is actually growing rather than sticking to a rigid calendar — Canberra's climate swings between extremes, so flexibility matters.

What height should Canberra lawns be cut to?

It depends on your grass type. Tall fescue and Kentucky bluegrass (common in Canberra Blend) do best at 50-75mm. Couch and kikuyu can be kept shorter at 25-40mm. Buffalo sits in between at 35-50mm. We adjust mowing height seasonally too — a bit higher in summer to protect roots from heat stress, and shorter heading into winter to reduce frost damage.

Do you use petrol or electric mowers?

All electric, all battery-powered. We run Makita battery mowers, line trimmers and blowers — charged by solar panels at home. No petrol, no exhaust fumes, and significantly quieter than traditional mowers. You can have your lawn done on a Sunday morning without waking the street.

Do you mow nature strips and verges?

Yes. We mow, edge and blow nature strips and verges as part of a standard visit when you ask. Most Canberra properties have them, and a tidy verge makes the whole frontage look right.
